The University of Arkansas at Little Rock鈥檚 esports Rocket League team ended the 2025 season with five wins, making it the first time in program history to win more than half of its games. This milestone reflects the team鈥檚 continued growth and progress as the team made its first-ever appearance in the Southeastern Esports League (SEL) LCQ playoff bracket, competing for a chance to move to the highest level.

Throughout the season, the Rocket League players made their mark in the SEL 鈥 a collegiate esports organization modeled after the traditional Southeastern Conference in athletics. The SEL brings together to compete at a high level in multiple esports titles.聽

糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 Rocket League team consistently demonstrated strong collaboration and strategic thinking, with two players regularly ranking among the top scorers in the entire conference. Carter Wallace, known in-game as Mountain, held the title of No.1 overall scorer for multiple weeks before being narrowly defeated heading into the playoffs.聽

The Trojans鈥 standout season also earned them two featured appearances on the SEL Main Conference live stream, showcasing their talent to a wider collegiate esports audience.

Coach Nathan Griffin praised the team鈥檚 effort and progress this year.

鈥淰ery proud of the guys and how well they played this season,鈥 Griffin said.鈥漈here were a lot of university firsts this season. Next season, we plan to qualify Tier 1 and show them we can compete at the highest level.鈥

With this winning season under their belt, the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Rocket League team is already looking ahead, ready to keep climbing and make their mark among the best in collegiate esports.

The esports team at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is making waves both regionally and nationally, with standout performances in the recent Super Regional Tournament and the National Association of Collegiate Esports (NACE) Rocket League playoffs.

In the Super Regional Tournament hosted at Hendrix University, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 esports team president, Benjamin Weisenfelder, showcased his gaming prowess among 130 participants. Competing in a fierce 1v1 bracket, Weisenfelder secured an impressive 17th place overall, representing Central Arkansas alongside other local talents who made it to the top 32. Not only did Weisenfelder compete, but he also contributed to the event’s atmosphere by providing live commentary for later matches, enriching the experience for both participants and viewers tuning in to the live stream.

Nathan Griffin, the school team coach, reflected on the tournament’s scale and regional significance, stating, 鈥淭his event was massive bringing in multiple universities as well as people not just from Arkansas but Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.鈥

Preceding the regional showdown, the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 esports team hosted an event aimed at preparing local students and enthusiasts in Central Arkansas. The event, held at the club’s space in ETAS 101, reached its maximum capacity with 48 entrants and attracted numerous spectators. Such initiatives underscore the team’s commitment to fostering a vibrant gaming community within the region.

Switching gears to Rocket League, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 esports team secured a coveted spot in the NACE Rocket League playoffs for the second consecutive year. The team went on to their first-ever playoff match win against Michigan State University before ultimately being eliminated in the second round of playoffs. Regardless, the Rocket League team has achieved a remarkable feat, securing promotion to the Premier NACE league after this past season. Their dedication, strategic prowess, and relentless determination have propelled them to the next level of competition. With their promotion, they’re poised to challenge the best teams in collegiate esports, showcasing their talent and solidifying their position among the elite.

The University of Little Rock鈥檚 esports (electronic sports) league competed in the NIRSA National rocket league tournament Feb. 16-18.

Tournament participants included Adam Perry, senior computer science major, Conner Capps, junior computer science major, and Trevor Dady, junior mechanical engineering major.

The NIRSA Championship Series allows its participants to compete, coordinate, and connect with peers through professional development, skill development, engagement, and learning opportunities.

糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 esports league focuses on competing against other groups in Rocket League, a game based on teamwork and outsmarting opponents. The game is an electronic version of soccer, with players working to get the ball down the field to the opponent team鈥檚 net.

Each of these participants have been involved in competitive Rocket League since high school. Perry, team captain and esports coordinator, was a founding player of the Bryant High School team, and Capps and Dady were founding players of the White Hall High School team. Dady served as captain and president of the esports organization until he graduated. When they learned about esports at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, they were all eager to get involved.

鈥淩ocket League is a lot of fun and is really simple to get into,鈥 Capps said. 鈥淣ow that we鈥檙e established, I hope people will come out to the game nights and compete in the intramural esports events.鈥

The league also participates in the each week. They have been victorious in four of the seven games they鈥檝e competed in this season, their latest victory being Mar. 13 against Michigan State University.

In addition to the esports league, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock also has an esports club that welcomes new members who are interested in gaming. The team plans to continue competing next semester, and they encourage interested students to come out to their game nights and participate in intramural and club esports events.
