The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is proud to announce that Tom Brannon, Chief Meteorologist at and proud 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock alumnus, has been named the honoree for the 21st annual Taste of Little Rock, which will take place April 7, 2026.

Taste of Little Rock, one of the university鈥檚 most beloved traditions, brings together alumni, community members, and dozens of local restaurants for an evening of food, fellowship, and fundraising in support of student scholarships. Over the past 20 years, the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Alumni Association has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships. This year, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students received more than $200,000 in scholarships.聽

鈥淚 am deeply honored and grateful to be named the honoree for the 21st Taste of Little Rock,鈥 Brannon said. 鈥淭he University of Arkansas at Little Rock has been a foundational part of my journey, and I credit much of my professional growth to the education and opportunities I received during my time there.鈥

Brannon, who grew up in Cabot, has been a familiar face to Arkansas television viewers for nearly three decades. He first joined THV11 in 1996 as weekend meteorologist and morning show feature reporter before becoming part of the weekday morning team that would dominate local news ratings for more than a decade. After a brief stint in advertising, he returned to THV11 in 2021 as chief meteorologist, where viewers can watch him weeknights at 4, 5, 6, and 10 p.m.

A 1985 graduate of Cabot High School, Brannon went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts degree from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock and later a Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. He holds the Television Seal of Approval in Broadcast Meteorology from the National Weather Association. Brannon often credits a childhood experience with sparking his passion for weather鈥攚hen a tornado nearly destroyed his hometown of Cabot in 1976 while he was in the third grade.

Beyond the weather desk, Brannon is known for his deep commitment to the community. He is considered the 鈥淕odfather鈥 of the THV11 Summer Cereal Drive, which just completed its 25th year of feeding Arkansas children and families. In all, more than 5 million breakfast items have been collected and served during the 25-year span of the Summer Cereal Drive. He has also lent his time and talents to a wide variety of nonprofits, including the Arkansas Foodbank, Special Olympics Arkansas, Stuff the Sleigh, Literacy Action of Central Arkansas, and Methodist Family Health, among others.

鈥淭om Brannon is an extraordinary ambassador for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock and for Arkansas,鈥 said Kristi Smith, associate vice chancellor of alumni and development. 鈥淗e has built a career of excellence while using his platform to make a difference in the lives of others. We are thrilled to honor him at the 2026 Taste of Little Rock and to celebrate his remarkable contributions both as a professional and as a community leader.鈥

Brannon, who lives in Little Rock with his wife, Leigh Ann, and daughter, Sophia, has maintained a strong connection to his alma mater. He has returned to campus as a keynote speaker, classroom guest, and mentor to students pursuing careers in mass communication.

鈥淭om has been a steadfast friend to the School of Mass Communication, generously giving his time to speak with our students in the classroom, at scholarship events, and whenever he can to share his experiences,鈥 said Kiel Thorlton, director of the School of Mass Communication. 鈥淗is commitment to mentoring the next generation of media professionals makes him especially deserving of this honor.鈥

In 2024, Brannon told students, 鈥淚 never would have had the opportunity to celebrate 25 years at THV11 if I didn鈥檛 go to school here. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock offered so many opportunities, and I鈥檓 very thankful for the instructors who helped me succeed.鈥

Held April 8 at the Jack Stephens Center, the university鈥檚 signature culinary event featured more than 35 local restaurants and vendors. The event broke previous attendance records, welcoming more than 1,000 alumni, friends, employees, students, and community members.

鈥淭his night is about celebrating our alumni and the connection they maintain with the university that helped shape their futures,鈥 said Kristi Smith, associate vice chancellor for alumni and development at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. 鈥淗alf of this year鈥檚 tickets were purchased by alumni, showing that we met our goal of strengthening alumni engagement. It鈥檚 inspiring to see so many alumni return not only to enjoy the evening’s food offerings, but to invest in the success of today鈥檚 and tomorrow鈥檚 students through scholarships.鈥

Martino, founder of iProv, Scale Technology, Enterprise Accounting Partners, and the Martino Law Firm, expressed his gratitude for the recognition and the important role alumni play in giving back to the university community.

鈥淚t鈥檚 truly humbling to be recognized by 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, a place that played such an important role in my life,鈥 Martino said. 鈥淭he mentorship, education, and opportunities I found here shaped who I am today. Alumni involvement extended beyond attendance and donations. Some of the alumni-owned restaurants include Certified Pies, owned by Samantha Stewart, and the XPerience Kitchen and Lounge, owned by Bobby Forrest Jr.

鈥淚 think students need the opportunities provided by the scholarships raised by events like Taste of Little Rock,鈥 said Stewart, a 2013 graduate of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. 鈥淚 am happy my business can help students pursue any opportunities they want to pursue.鈥

Longtime participant,  and 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock alumnae Stephanie Caruthers, co-chair of the Taste of Little Rock Committee the managing partner of 罢谤颈辞鈥檚, highlighted the strong alumni presence among restaurateurs.

鈥淚鈥檓 so excited to celebrate 20 years of Taste of Little Rock, a truly special event that brings our community together to support 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock,鈥 Caruthers said. 鈥淚t鈥檚 hard to believe I鈥檝e been involved in every one, either as a participating restaurant or part of the organizing team. As an alumna, being part of this event has deepened my connection to the university and made me incredibly proud to help future students achieve their educational goals. Every dollar raised here makes a real difference.鈥

鈥淚 think this is the best Taste of Little Rock we鈥檝e ever had,鈥 added Loris Fullerton, a 1974 graduate of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock and fellow co-chair of the event committee. 鈥淓veryone is ready to celebrate the wonderful food of Little Rock and offer lots of scholarships to our amazing students. Taste of Little Rock is an amazing event that the alumni do to stay involved with the university and serve as great ambassadors for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock.鈥

For alumni like Becky Flynn, a member of the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Alumni Board of Directors, the event is about more than just good food. It鈥檚 also an opportunity to champion student success.聽

“I think this event is so important to raise awareness and funding for student scholarships at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock,” said Flynn, deputy director of the Office of Outdoor Recreation with the Arkansas Department of Parks, Heritage, and Tourism. “As alumni, it鈥檚 important that we engage with the broader community to share all the exciting things happening on campus and for our students, things that will benefit our community and our future.”

Pam Ball, a 1976 graduate of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, and her friend Jane Kaufman, a 1987 graduate of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, are hardcore Taste of Little Rock fans who have attended the event every year.

鈥淚鈥檝e been to every Taste of Little Rock so far, and I love it! I get to meet new people and talk to people I hardly get to see,鈥 Ball said. 鈥淚 love to try new food. I like to come here because there are so many restaurants to try without driving all over town. I look forward to it every year!鈥

Dustin and Christina Utley, owners of Fazoli鈥檚, were excited to be showcasing their food at Taste of Little Rock for the second time since they took over the restaurant in 2022.

鈥淚t鈥檚 great for us to get out and mingle, meet new people, and for people to see what we have to offer,鈥 Dustin Utley said. 鈥淭he community has given us a lot, and we want to give back. We also love supporting college scholarships.鈥

糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock is also thankful to all the amazing sponsors who are helping to support 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock and its students! The 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Alumni Board of Directors are serving as a gold sponsor, while the silver sponsors include Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Entergy, Stephanie and Brooks Caruthers, Klassik Entertainment, Loris and Jay Fullerton, Lost Forty, Mays, Byrd & O鈥橤uinn, PLLC, Natural State Private Wealth Management, TMB Capital Partners, Simmons Bank, Songbyrd Development Enterprises, LLC, Southern Glazer鈥檚, and USAble Life.

Gerald and Veronica Gregory, owners of Songbyrd Development Enterprises, one of the night鈥檚 silver sponsors, were there to support 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, local businesses, and student scholarships.

鈥淭his staple event is one of the main reasons I鈥檝e gotten involved with the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Alumni Board of Directors. This event gives back to students through scholarships. Being a graduate of the university, I want to do everything I can to support students and local businesses,鈥 said Gerald Gregory, adding that their favorite restaurants of the night were Wright鈥檚 BBQ and AfroBites.

Despite the amazing assortment of food selections, Dr. Michael Moore, director of undergraduate research at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, said the fellowship and chance to catch up was his favorite part of the evening.

鈥淥ne of the greatest things about 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock is the people, and we love the chance to get together to see all these wonderful people,鈥 Moore said. 鈥淲e have the most amazing students in the world, and this is a great way to support our students. It鈥檚 the best of both worlds.鈥

Stephanie Caruthers, a partner at 罢谤颈辞鈥檚 and a long-time member of the Taste of Little Rock Committee, described the event as phenomenal.

鈥淭he most exciting time of the evening is when people are waiting to come in the door and the restaurants are making last-minute preparations,鈥 Caruthers said. 鈥淵ou can feel the energy in the room as it fills up with excited people. Taste of Little Rock supports a great cause, and that is what makes it so great to be a part of as a committee member and restaurant owner.鈥

Once supported by a scholarship from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, Rowan has continuously and generously invested in education through his longtime endowed scholarship program for mass communication students at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. The money is raised on Labor Day weekend with his award-winning “TreDay.com Charity Classic,” which consists of a tennis tournament, a celebrity party, and his locally famous silent auction.

鈥淏eing named the 2024 Taste of Little Rock Honoree is quite surreal,鈥 Rowan said. 鈥淎s an attendee of past Taste of Little Rock events, I have always looked up to the honorees. To now be included among them is very humbling, and my heart is filled with gratitude. I annually highlight Taste of Little Rock on my calendar as it neatly combines two things I love, food and, of course, giving back to Little Rock. It’s the perfect combination and extremely appropriate as I have always viewed the importance of investing in higher education not as getting students full of knowledge but rather making them always hungry for more.鈥

General admission tickets for Taste of Little Rock are $75, while tickets for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock faculty and staff, alumni association lifetime members, and graduates within the last five years are $35. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will honor Arkansas radio personality and celebrated alumnus Travis 鈥淭re鈥 Day鈥 Rowan as the 2024 honoree of the 19th annual Taste of Little Rock event.

It’s the perfect combination and extremely appropriate as I have always viewed the importance of investing in higher education not as getting students full of knowledge but rather making them always hungry for more.鈥

糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 highly anticipated culinary and social event, Taste of Little Rock, is set for Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 6-8 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center. The event annually raises more than $100,000 for the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Alumni Association Scholarship Fund while introducing guests to some of the best food in the city from the finest restaurants in Little Rock.

The event鈥檚 honoree has a passion for his alma mater and has a long history of providing support for students at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock.

鈥淥ur honoree is not just a familiar voice on the airwaves but a familiar symbol of community spirit and support for 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock,鈥 said Kristi Smith, associate vice chancellor for alumni and development. 鈥淭ime and again, Tre鈥 Day has unselfishly utilized his time and talents to support student scholarships, professional development, and equipment at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. We are so happy to honor Tre鈥 Day as the 2024 Taste of Little Rock honoree, a shining example of the profound impact one person can have.鈥

Education has always been important to Rowan, who graduated from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in mass communication in 2000 with a 4.0 GPA. Once supported by a scholarship from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, he has continuously and generously invested in education through his longtime endowed scholarship program for mass communication students at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. The money is raised on Labor Day weekend with his award-winning “TreDay.com Charity Classic,” which consists of a tennis tournament, a celebrity party, and his locally famous silent auction.

Additionally, Rowan has also donated the equipment for two new audio production studios at the university, is a two-time recipient of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 Meritorious Service Award, is a lifetime member of the Alumni Association, and serves on the School of Mass Communication Board of Directors. His service also includes serving as a guest speaker to mass communication classes every semester, hosting tours of campus with international delegations, producing commercials, speaking with high school students about the benefits of attending 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, and doing live broadcasts with the university鈥檚 TRIO programs.

Rowan鈥檚 professors in the School of Mass Communication praise him as an outstanding graduate who has done so much to support and inspire 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 students.

鈥淚t鈥檚 wonderful to see Tre鈥 Day honored in this way,鈥 said Dr. Jamie Bryne-McCollum, professor and undergraduate program coordinator. 鈥淗e is a fiercely loyal alum of the School of Mass Communication and has done everything he can to support the school and its students. He has hosted numerous interns over the years at Power 92, and he has endowed a scholarship that will continue to provide opportunities for students to complete their education with us. Tre truly believes in paying it forward. He speaks to students in our classes and is a great representative of the school in the larger community. On top of everything else, he is a wonderful husband, father, and friend.鈥

鈥淗e is truly deserving because of his commitment not only to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock but specifically to the School of Mass Communication,鈥 said Dr. Tim Edwards, professor of mass communication. 鈥淗e is the personification of the engaged alum. When I call on him to speak to a class or to present his scholarship during our annual awards ceremony, he always delivers. I think students who engage with him come away inspired because of what he has been able to accomplish after leaving 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. Giving back is a part of his DNA.”

Rowan began his radio career in 1996 right out of high school. The name of his popular radio personality was given to him by his basketball teammates after hitting nine three-pointers in a single game. While a full-time student at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, he worked his way up from an internship to a popular host at KIPR 92.3 FM. He worked as the music and production assistant for KIPR and KOKY from 1998-2002. More information about the honorees:

Oscar Horton serves as chairman and CEO of Horton Holdings, LLC, which owns and manages the operations of its subsidiaries Sun State International, Sun State Real Estate, and the Horton family office. He is a member of the Tampa Bay Business Hall of Fame and was most recently named one of Tampa Bay鈥檚 Top 100 Most Powerful Business Leaders.

After graduating from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, Horton began his career as a sales representative for the International Truck & Engine鈥檚 financial corporation. He served as vice president and general manager of the company鈥檚 Foundry Business, a multi-million-dollar business with approximately 1,500 employees. After an illustrious 25-year career with International Truck & Engine Corporation, he left to become president and CEO of Sun State International. During his presidency, the company increased its revenue seven-fold and improved its profitability, employee morale, and customer satisfaction. This turn-around helped Sun State secure the 2020 Dealer of the Year Award from the American Truck Dealers.

Horton is an active volunteer in the community. He serves on the board of directors for the Bank of Tampa, Tampa Bay Community Foundation (chairperson), the University of South Florida鈥檚 Board of Trustees, and Tampa General Hospital. He is a past chairperson of the Board for Academy Prep Center of Tampa and is a former board member for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, Jacksonville Branch.

Bill Mathis, Jr. graduated from Horace Mann High School and earned his bachelor鈥檚 degree in psychology from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, where he was active in intramural sports and developed lifelong friendships. One of his fondest memories was his psychology professor and mentor Dr. Louis Woods, who taught psychology with a statistical point of view. Mathis also completed the Directors Forum at Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Mathis has more than 25 years of executive experience in business development and sales management in the financial services industry, with a demonstrated track record in building and leading high-performance teams. He retired in 2009 as executive vice president of MasterCard International, where he led a team of 150 employees responsible for delivering 60 percent of the organization鈥檚 U.S. region revenue. In 2005, Mathis was honored as MasterCard’s inaugural Coach of the Year, which signifies sales and team development leadership. Prior to joining MasterCard International, he served as senior vice president with the vendor financial services unit at GE Capital.

He has also been active in the community, serving on several boards. He previously served on the Board of Directors of Goldleaf Financial Solutions, Inc.; the Board of Directors for First Tee of Metropolitan New York; and the Junior Achievement International Board, where he sat on the Executive Committee and the Lead Brand Effectiveness Committee. Mathis previously served as co-chair of the MasterCard Diversity Committee, as well as the Political Action Committee and Pension Investment Committee.

Nancy Secen earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and graduated with honors from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 Executive MBA program in 2001. She had a successful career of more than three decades working for Kimberly-Clark Corp. with positions in Conway, Maumelle, and Wisconsin. She retired from Kimberly-Clark in 2018 after 34 years of experience in engineering, operations, project management, and quality management.

A lifetime member of the Alumni Association, she joined the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Alumni Board of Directors in 2005, jumping at the opportunity to give back to the university that gave her such a positive educational experience. She has served on the Scholarship Committee for 15 years, serving four terms as committee chair, and has helped to strengthen and streamline the scholarship interview process. Her work on the Scholarship Committee sounded the alarm for the need for more scholarships. Her diligence laid the foundation for Taste of Little Rock, the university’s largest scholarship fundraiser now in its 18th year.

鈥淥ne of the best parts of being a board member was talking to the students who were interviewed as part of the scholarship selection process,鈥 Secen said. 鈥溙切腣log传媒 Little Rock has many deserving students who need financial support to complete their studies. It was inspiring to meet and speak with the talented and impressive students who were working toward degrees they planned to use to improve their lives and the lives of others.鈥

Stephanie Caruthers is a partner in , one of Central Arkansas鈥檚 most notable, award-winning restaurants. She joined 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock in 1985 and graduated with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in international studies and a minor in French. She was a member of the Donaghey Scholars Honors Program, and a highlight of her college career was a 1987 summer abroad language and culture study in Strasbourg, France.

Caruthers began her career at 罢谤颈辞鈥檚 in 1987. She was part of a founding group of chefs and restaurateurs that spearheaded a Share Our Strength鈥檚 Taste of the Nation effort in Little Rock in the mid-1990s. The nationwide event began in the 1980s to mobilize restaurants and chefs to organize tasting events to raise awareness and funds for hunger-fighting nonprofit organizations. Share our Strength continues to fight childhood hunger with their No Kid Hungry campaign, and 罢谤颈辞鈥檚 continues to support their efforts through its involvement with the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.

This year, Caruthers began her third term on the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Board of Directors. She is a familiar site at Taste of Little Rock, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 highly anticipated annual culinary and social event. 罢谤颈辞鈥檚 is one of the Taste of Little Rock鈥檚 original participating restaurants, and Caruthers has been involved in every event since, serving as chair/co-chair of two previous Taste of Little Rock events. Caruthers also serves on the Donaghey Scholars Alumni Board and is a member of Tri Delta Sorority.

鈥淚 am quite honored to receive this recognition,鈥 Caruthers said. 鈥淚 have always been a proud Trojan. My Alumni Association Board service, however, has deepened my appreciation for my own university experience. Watching the university continue to grow and thrive is truly exciting. I especially enjoy participating in the scholarship process. Awarding the fruits of our Taste of Little Rock labors is icing on the cake.鈥
