糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 Emerging Analytics Center (EAC) is gearing up for an exciting summer ahead, with three different summer camps on the horizon for middle and high school students.

Kicking off the summer, the EAC will be offering a VEX Robotics Camp for students in grades 5-8. The camp will run between June 10-14, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost will be $150. Students who attend will gain valuable skills in robotics, programming, and teamwork.

During this camp, students will learn to use VEX IQ, a kit designed for elementary and middle school aged children. Children and their teammates will design, construct, and program a robot in preparation for a competition at the end of the camp. to register.

From July 8-12, the EAC will host students in grades 7-12 for a Cybersecurity Camp. During this camp, students will be equipped with the skills to protect against digital threats. Students will learn the CIA of cybersecurity, which is confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

The EAC will teach students how layers of security work to form barriers, how to stay one step ahead of hackers, and how artificial-intelligence technology can be harnessed to bolster defenses and counter attacks. The fun, hands-on activities and challenges will offer attendees valuable cybersecurity knowledge and skills. The camp hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and attendance costs will total $150. to register.

The EAC鈥檚 Virtual Reality Camp will introduce middle and high school students grades 7-12 to the exciting world of virtual reality. The camp will run from July 29 to Aug. 2, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., and the cost of attendance is $150.

Using the Unity software and Meta Quest 2 Headsets, the EAC will teach attendees how to create their own unique virtual-reality games and experiences. Instructors will guide students through the process of designing interactive environments, characters, and interactive gameplay. By the end of the camp, students will have created their own virtual-reality game to share with family and friends. for the EAC鈥檚 VR camp.

More than 20 junior high and high school students spent a week learning how to create immersive games and virtual reality content for Meta during the University of Arkansas at Little Rock鈥檚 third annual virtual reality summer camp held July 31 to Aug. 4.

The 21 students learned how to create immersive games for the Meta Quest and Meta Quest 2 using the program, Unity, in the Emerging Analytics Center at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. At the end of the camp, students are set up with developer accounts if they want to continue to create games and other virtual reality content for Meta.

Students who participated in the camp include Liam Bunch, Gale Duncan, Elijah Goodrich, Daniel Steele, Brayden Pruss, Jack Huddleston, Ethan Pleis, Emerson Pleis, Jamie Winchel, Micah Ficklin, Samantha Stoddard, Brooklynn Gray, Raha Kalantari, Kerem Karabacak, Sam Reyes, Drayce Wallace, Harper Bennings, Henry Gillespie, Kairi Reichard, Cohen Harris, and Maaziah Guy.

The students learned how to use the Unity program to create virtual reality games involving a scavenger hunt, basketball, dodgeball, and a space adventure.

鈥淢y favorite game was the basketball game since I am a basketball player and love basketball,鈥 said Kairi Reichard, a sixth grader at Mountain Pine Elementary School who plans to play in the Women鈥檚 National Basketball Association one day. 鈥淚 came to virtual reality camp because I thought it would be fun, and I feel like I鈥檓 really good at virtual reality.鈥

As a two-time camp veteran, Cohen Harris, an eighth grader at Robinson Middle School, got the opportunity to create his own virtual reality project. He is a fan of Gorilla Tag, an open-source virtual reality game, and is working to create 3D models for Gorilla Tag.

Cohen said that attending virtual reality camp is helping him build the skills he needs for his future career as a game designer and developer.

鈥淰irtual Reality Camp has been really fun,鈥 Cohen said. 鈥淎ll the teachers are nice and are willing to help you. On my own computer, I have Blender and Unity. I can use Blender to make 3D models and animations to use with Gorilla Tag.鈥

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will host a virtual reality summer camp from July 31 to Aug. 4 for junior high and high school students.

The university鈥檚 Emerging Analytics Center will host the camp for rising students in grades 7-12 from noon to 5 p.m. July 31 to Aug. 4 at the Engineering and Information Technology Building at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. Students will spend an action-packed week creating immersive games for the Meta Quest or Meta Quest 2.

鈥淭he virtual reality platform continues to grow exponentially,鈥 said Sandra Leiterman, managing director of the Cyber Arena. 鈥淭eaching kids how to create VR content is an exciting way to bring out the creative talent that so many young people didn鈥檛 even know they had! Plus, learning at a young age could lead to an exciting career path with tons of potential. We have an incredible learning program here at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock in the Emerging Analytics Center, and we are excited to share our knowledge with the next generation of virtual reality content creators.鈥

Also involved in the camp will be Dr. Jan Springer, director of the Emerging Analytics Center who oversees AR/VR initiatives at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, and Dr. Phillip Huff, an assistant professor who oversees all cybersecurity initiatives at the university.

Access to a Facebook account is required to build Meta content. Students may bring their own Meta device or purchase one from 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock to take home at the end of camp. A limited number of Meta headsets are available for students to borrow during the camp.

The cost of the camp is $125 if students bring or borrow a device or $565 with the purchase of the Meta Quest 2. Those interested in attending may register by .
