What Is Quills & Pixels?

Quills & Pixels is the student-produced journal of The Writers’ Network at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock. It publishes creative nonfiction writing and is a peer-reviewed journal. The editorial team reads the submissions and decides what to publish without knowing who the authors are.

The editorial team consists of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students in the ENGL 42173/RHET 52173 course, Editing for Publication. The journal is copyedited and designed by students in ENGL 42373.

How Can I Read Quills & Pixels?

Quills & Pixels moved to an online format in 2024. You can read it at .

Paper copies from previous years are available at the Rhetoric and Writing Main Office in Stabler 603 or you can email [email protected] and request copies be mailed to you.

Who Can Submit Their Work?

Anyone associated with the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock community鈥攕tudents, staff, and faculty, as well as alumni of the university and persons involved in any of 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 outreach and community programs鈥攊s welcome to submit their work.

This includes people from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (糖心Vlog传媒MS), the William H. Bowen School of Law, and the Clinton School of Public Service.

What Are the Manuscript Requirements?

Submissions must

  • Be original, unpublished nonfiction work.
  • Be redacted (remove your name from the writing鈥攗se a pseudonym if your name appears in the text).
  • Include a header with a shortened title and page numbers throughout.

You may submit up to 5 pieces.

How Does It Work?

What you do:

  1. Pick which piece(s) to submit (you can submit up to 5).
  2. Redact the pieces (take out anything that identifies you as the author).
  3. Submit them via .
  4. Wait.

What we do:

  1. Wait for submissions.
  2. Read all submissions, using a rubric to guide our reading.
  3. Select works for publication.
  4. Contact authors about the status of their work.
  5. Work with authors whose manuscripts has been selected for publication to finalize their drafts.
