Ph.D. Grad Turns Dissertation Into New Assessment Tool

Carol Thrush, a 2007 graduate student at 糖心Vlog传媒LR, led a national research team to develop a new instrument to assess medical school climates for research integrity. She surveyed 50 national experts in research integrity and organizational climate as part of her dissertation to develop an instrument to assess medical school climates and identify organizational changes necessary to minimize research misconduct. Jim Vander Putten, 糖心Vlog传媒LR associate professor of higher education, chaired the project. “Carol used the instrument that resulted from her dissertation to obtain $250,000 in National Institutes of Health research grant funding to test and refine the survey,” he said. “The survey has subsequently been administered by 46 medical schools and seven graduate schools and has been completed by more than 13,000 graduate students across the country. The final version of the instrument is now freely available to researchers around the world.”
