Chuck Rainey to kick off 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Chancellor鈥檚 Concert Series]]> The Chancellor鈥檚 Concert Series is a new menu of highly select offerings from world-class artists from all musical genres. The inaugural season begins with 鈥淭he Stories Behind the Songs with Chuck Rainey鈥 at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Fine Arts Building. Rainey鈥檚 bass lines have laid the foundation for many of the most popular songs in pop, rock, jazz, and fusion. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential bass players in the instrument鈥檚 history. In addition to his extensive work as a sideman, he has also released numerous solo albums. In this event, Rainey will be joined by a full band, including 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students, to talk about and reflect on his favorite songs by performers like Steely Dan, Aretha Franklin, the Young Rascals, and Quincy Jones. The Chancellor鈥檚 Concert Series also will feature performances by the innovative New York Classical Players on Oct. 9 and world-renowned guitarist Phil Keaggy on Oct. 27. Grammy Award-winning Parker Quartet to perform at 糖心Vlog传媒LR]]> The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will kick off its spring 2017 Artspree Concert Series with a performance by the Grammy Award-winning Parker Quartet.听 Presented in collaboration with the Chamber Music Society of Little Rock, the concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the 糖心Vlog传媒LR Fine Arts Building. A master class composed of 糖心Vlog传媒LR and local high school student musicians will also perform with the group at 12:15 p.m. Feb. 23 in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. This performance is free and open to the public. The group is composed of violinists Daniel Chong and Ying Xue, violist Jessica Bodner, and cellist Kee-Hyun Kim. They hold graduate degrees in performance and chamber music from the New England Conservatory of Music and were part of the New England Conservatory鈥檚 prestigious Professional String Quartet Training Program from 2006 to 2008. Inspiring performances, luminous sound, and exceptional musicianship are the hallmarks of the Parker Quartet. Renowned for its dynamic interpretations and polished, expansive colors, the group has rapidly distinguished itself as one of the preeminent ensembles of its generation, according to the quartet鈥檚 website. The Quartet has appeared at the most important venues worldwide since its founding in 2002. In 2016, the group released its own recording for Nimbus Records of Mendelssohn Quartet鈥檚 Op. 44, Nos. 1 and 3. The Parker Quartet鈥檚 numerous honors include winning the Concert Artists Guild Competition, the Grand Prix and Mozart Prize at France鈥檚 Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition, and Chamber Music America鈥檚 prestigious Cleveland Quartet Award. Paul Brock and Manus McGuire founded the the Brock McGuire Band. Brock and McGuire are two of Ireland鈥檚 most celebrated traditional musicians and have been at the forefront of Irish music for many years. According to , the band鈥檚 music is a tight, tenacious blend of instruments that emphasizes mostly Irish music, but also utilizes impressive arrangements of Bluegrass, French-Canadian, and other Celtic traditions. 糖心Vlog传媒LR students and employees may attend the event for free. Artspree Concert Series continues with jazz guitarist Julian Lage]]> The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Artspree Concert Series will feature a special performance by jazz artist and guitarist Julian Lage at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the 糖心Vlog传媒LR Fine Arts Building.听 Lage was a child prodigy who began playing at the age of 5. By 8, he performed with Carlos Santana and became the subject of the 1997 Academy Award-nominated documentary film 鈥淛ules at Eight.鈥 Lage has collaborated with artists like Gary Burton, Jim Hall, David Grisman, B茅la Fleck, and Charles Lloyd. He has released three albums as a leader, most recently the 2016 trio outing 鈥淎rclight,鈥 featuring Scott Colley and Kenny Wollesen.
