Chancellor鈥檚 Concert Series to feature Paul Brock Band]]> The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will host a concert by the Paul Brock Band on Wednesday, Oct. 24, as part of the Chancellor鈥檚 Concert Series.听 The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Fine Arts Building. A reception, sponsored by Friends of the Arts, will begin at 6:30 p.m. with beverages provided by Flyway Brewery Company. General admission tickets are $10. 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock faculty, staff, and students can attend the event for free. The Paul Brock Band features four of Ireland鈥檚 leading musicians:听Paul Brock听on accordion from Ennis, County Clare; Tipperary-born听Denis Carey听on piano;听Clare-born and now St. Louis based听Eimear Arkins听on fiddle, song, and dance; and听Manchester鈥檚听Shane Farrell听on banjo, fiddle, bodhran, guitar, mandolin, and song. A beacon of passion and precision, integrity and diversity, Paul Brock Band is steeped in the Irish musical tradition and yet manages to seamlessly, effortlessly blend and fold in elements from American old time and bluegrass, French-Canadian, and other Celtic traditions to create something accessible, recognizable, beautiful, and entirely unique. This ability is exemplified in the band鈥檚 most recent album, 鈥淕reen Grass Blue Grass,鈥 featuring 14-time Grammy Award winner听Ricky Skaggs. The free event, which includes a performance and gallery reception, will be 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. in 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall, 2401 S. University Ave. “Jimmy Abegg is a musician, a singer-songwriter, a photographer, and a painter,” said Dillon Hupp, ACANSA’s executive director. “He is truly a renaissance man, and his art has been described as ‘having a tendency toward curiosity, whimsy, and simple beauty…’ We know this performance is not to be missed as Jimmy brings his many talents to the stage at the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall!” Abegg鈥檚 performance is jointly sponsored by the Chancellor’s Concert Series at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock and the ACANSA Arts Festival, which has been bringing nationally known artists to various central Arkansas venues since 2014.

K糖心Vlog传媒R to host live recording featuring folk art of Ed Stilley]]> K糖心Vlog传媒R鈥檚 Arts & Letters program will host a live recording Thursday, April 26, about Kelly Mulhollan鈥檚 book 鈥淭rue Faith, True Light: The Devotional Art of Ed Stilley.鈥 听 The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall. , who have played with Paul Simon and Bob Dylan, will provide the music. In his book, Mulhollan documents the life of Ed Stilley, a farmer from Hogscald Hollow, Arkansas, who created more than 200 musical instruments from found objects: a rusty door hinge, a steak bone, a stack of dimes, springs, saw blades, pot lids, metal pipes, glass bottles, aerosol cans鈥攁nything he could use to build a working guitar, fiddle, or dulcimer. On each instrument Stilley inscribed 鈥淭rue Faith, True Light, Have Faith in God.鈥 Mulhollan has collected some of Stilley鈥檚 hand-crafted instruments, which Polygraph Lounge鈥檚 Rob Schwimmer, Mark Stewart, and Melissa Fathman will play. Polygraph Lounge to close out Chancellor鈥檚 Concert Series]]> 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Chancellor鈥檚 Concert Series closes its inaugural season听in April听with a week-long residency of Polygraph Lounge 鈥 made up of the artists Rob Schwimmer, Mark Stewart and Melissa Fathman. Individually, the musicians听perform as virtuoso soloists and composers. Together, they create an eclectic mix of wit, humor, and dazzling musical artistry which they describe as 鈥渋nspired lunacy/anarchy.鈥 Schwimmer is a composer-pianist/keyboardist, thereminist, vocalist and Continuum player who has performed and recorded throughout the world. Stewart is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer and instrument designer. Since 1998 he has recorded, toured and been musical director with Paul Simon. Melissa Fathman is equally at home on the opera stage, in the concert hall and in clubs. She has collaborated with innovative performance artists, composers and educators, and developed and performed in a number of educational projects. The Chancellor鈥檚 Concert Series is a new menu of highly select offerings from world-class artists from all musical genres. The New York Classical Players is a dynamic and versatile chamber orchestra comprised of young musicians committed to bringing free, high-level concerts to diverse audiences in the greater New York City metropolitan area. A non-profit organization comprised of young professional musicians under the leadership of founding music director Dongmin Kim, the musical group seeks to reach a wide spectrum of audiences with performances that engage the communities in which they occur. The Chancellor鈥檚 Concert Series also will feature a performance by world-renowned guitarist Phil Keaggy on Oct. 27. Rainey鈥檚 bass lines have laid the foundation for many of the most popular songs in pop, rock, jazz, and fusion. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential bass players in the instrument鈥檚 history. In addition to his extensive work as a sideman, he has also released numerous solo albums.
