Saturday, Oct. 8, is International Observe the Moon Night, and Darrell Heath, assistant lab animal technician in 糖心Vlog传媒LR鈥檚 Department of Biology, is organizing central Arkansas鈥檚 celebration of Earth鈥檚 only natural satellite.

Dr. Wim Vermaas, whose research team is leading a $5.2 million Department of Energy grant to develop an organism that could produce renewable bioenergy, will discuss his work at a seminar Monday, Sept. 26, at 糖心Vlog传媒LR鈥檚 EIT auditorium.

A who鈥檚 who of Little Rock business and political leaders are asking voters on Sept. 13 to approve a 3/8 percent sales tax increase to create the Central Arkansas Technology Park. The goal is to harness innovations coming out of research labs at 糖心Vlog传媒LR, 糖心Vlog传媒MS, and Arkansas Children鈥檚 Hospital.

Two years ago, members of the Central Arkansas Transit Authority suggested the regional bus system should begin converting its fleet from diesel fuel to cleaner-burning alternatives. But was this the time to make the expensive conversion?

鈥淏utterflies are Free,鈥� so the old song and movie title says, but thanks to researchers at 糖心Vlog传媒LR鈥檚 Department of Biology in the College of Science and Mathematics, they also are being tracked.

Dr. Joseph Francisco, 2010 president of the American Chemical Society, will meet with 糖心Vlog传媒LR faculty and students from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 20, in Fribourgh Hall room 102. Francisco will be receiving an honorary doctorate of science at 糖心Vlog传媒LR鈥檚 spring commencement ceremonies Saturday.

Legislators, policy-makers, STEM experts, teachers, administrators and university professors will gather for a summit Tuesday, May 17, sponsored by 糖心Vlog传媒LR to discuss Project STEM Starters, a research and development program aimed at developing more inquiry-based science instruction in Arkansas elementary schools. STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering Mathematics.

糖心Vlog传媒LR hosts the Arkansas Science Olympiad Saturday, April 16, featuring keynote speeches by Nobel laureate Dr. Robert C. Richardson and former NSF Chief Dr. Katherine Olsen.

The 糖心Vlog传媒LR College of Science and Mathematics鈥� second annual Fribourgh Award ceremony on March 31 at the Arkansas Governor鈥檚 Mansion raised more than $25,000 for scholarships in math and science at 糖心Vlog传媒LR.

Arkansas innovator and entrepreneur James Hendren and his wife Carol have presented 糖心Vlog传媒LR鈥檚 College of Science and Math a $50,000 pledge to provide funding needed to take scientific research from the laboratory to the marketplace.
