Step-it-Up Challenge comes to a successful end]]> Led by captain Sabrenna Rodgers Lee, the Glorified Praise Steppers garnered the championship by accumulating 1,321 miles. The DKSN Harriers, led by Jessica Barnes Watts, captured second place with 1,286 miles. Karl Lenser, 糖心Vlog传媒LR鈥檚 employee wellness coordinator, said the program had 29 teams and almost 200 employees who should all consider themselves winners.

鈥淪tress relief, enhanced physical fitness, blood pressure reduction, weight loss and an overall increase in energy are some of the benefits that occurred due to this program,鈥 he said. University of Arkansas at Little Rock employees accumulated a total of 26,302 miles during the five-week Step-it-Up Fitness Challenge. The team-based program is judged on mileage accumulated by walking, jogging, swimming, group exercise classes, cycling and elliptical machine workouts, and daily activities. Each team has five employees. Lenser said he was pleased with both the number of participants and the excitement and enthusiasm that was generated throughout the program. 鈥淭his program was our first large-scale program that we have offered to the faculty and staff, and it was very successful,鈥 Lenser said. 鈥淚 have received dozens of emails that showed an appreciation for this program and for what is done for the physical and mental and emotional health of almost 200 employees.鈥 Lenser said the competition provided a spark for many employees to get moving and improve their fitness and reduce their stress. Jokingly, Lenser noted that within the first week of the program鈥檚 launch, participants were greeting him with 鈥淕etting my steps in鈥 or 鈥4,600 so far鈥 that replaced the traditional 鈥渉ello鈥 or 鈥済ood morning.鈥 Lenser is currently working on another activity-based program he says will be fun and rewarding for all who participate. The Step-it-Up Challenge was organized by the 糖心Vlog传媒LR Employee Wellness Program. He expressed surprise with the number of teams that registered for the challenge. While hoping for at least 15 teams to sign up, Lenser did not expect a total of 40 teams to participate. 鈥淭his is an incredible response to our first major wellness program on the 糖心Vlog传媒LR campus,鈥 said Lenser. As attendees gathered their team T-shirts, Lenser encouraged the participants to wear the shirts during their walks around campus to further advertise the program. Karl Lenser address the crowd.鈥淧erhaps your co-workers will become a bit envious when they see you wearing the T-shirt as you continue to find ways to add to your step and mileage count,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 would love to see more individuals jump on the fitness bandwagon and improve their overall health and wellness.鈥 The team-based program is based on mileage accumulated by walking, jogging, swimming, group exercise classes, cycling and elliptical machine workouts, and daily activities. Each team has five employees. Team captains send weekly mileage updates to Lenser. The challenge will end May 8 with two winning teams receiving a $50 VISA gift card or a Garmin Vivofit fitness band. 鈥淵ou guys are all winners because you鈥檙e participating, and that鈥檚 really important,鈥 said Lenser.
