U.S. News and World Report Recognizes ��Vlog��ý Little Rock for Undergraduate Education

U.S. News and World Report has recognized the University of Arkansas at Little Rock for being a top university in social mobility for its students as well as for its excellent academic programs in nursing, business, engineering, and computer science. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock has once again been recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a continued leader in social mobility Arkansas with a ranking of #197. The ranking measures a university’s success in graduating economically disadvantaged students who are less likely to finish college. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock is committed to providing an affordable college education for its students with a focus on student success initiatives and a competitive scholarship portfolio. “��Vlog��ý Little Rock continues to prioritize student success while simultaneously improving access to higher education,” said Dr. Cody Decker, vice chancellor for student affairs and chief data officer. “Given the increase in students choosing to enroll at ��Vlog��ý Little Rock, the increase in student retention rates, and the decrease in the net price of attendance, it is no surprise that ��Vlog��ý Little Rock has been recognized with this social mobility ranking.” The social mobility indicator measures how well schools graduated students who received federal Pell Grants. Students receiving these grants typically come from households whose family incomes are less than $50,000 annually, though most Pell Grant money goes to students with a total family income below $20,000. The social mobility ranking was computed by assessing Pell Grant graduation rates and Pell Grant graduate rate performance. U.S. News rankings are widely recognized as symbols of excellence in higher education that are conferred by an unbiased trust agent. The Department of Computer Science ranking is up 18 spots over last year. Initially accredited in 1990 and the first Computer Science program accredited in the state, the program offers a minor in information insurance, a bachelor’s degree in computer science with an option that focuses on games, a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity, a master’s degree in computer science, and a Ph.D. in computer and information science. Students study a wide range of in-demand fields including cybersecurity, virtual and augmented reality, data visualization, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and mobile, smart systems, and software for Internet of Things. While ��Vlog��ý Little Rock began its first bachelor’s degree program in cybersecurity last year, the university was already a proven leader in cybersecurity education and workforce development in the state. Earlier this year, ��Vlog��ý Little Rock received a $1.96 million workforce development grant from the Arkansas Office of Skills Development to create the , a consortium of seven University of Arkansas System campuses to expand and diversify workforce education in emergency cyber technologies throughout the state. The Cyber Learning Network began offering a new certificate of proficiency in cybersecurity fundamentals this fall with a second certificate program due to start in the spring 2023 semester. “The undergraduate computer science programs again being recognized in the U.S. News and World Report rankings is a credit to the faculty and teaching staff in the Department of Computer Science,” said Dr. Albert Baker, chair of the Department of Computer Science. “The commitment and energy of these scholars to the nurturing of our student’s professional careers is leading to our continued success. Hall leads the Center for Simulation Innovation, a 20-bed state-of-the-art simulation hospital offering simulation-based clinical learning experiences within a 9,500 square foot facility. The center ensures students graduate having experienced a variety of scenarios they will likely face in the nursing profession. This July, ��Vlog��ý Little Rock launched the new School of Engineering and Engineering Technology to bring together the university’s competitive engineering programs. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has been recognized as having some of the best online programs in computer information technology in the country. U.S. News & World Report ranked ��Vlog��ý Little Rock 19th in its 2022 ranking of “.” This ranking assesses online master’s degree programs in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, information systems, and information technology. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock also earned the 19th spot in the 2020 and 2021 lists for U.S. News & World Report. “We are really gratified to make the list for the third year in a row. We know we need to keep improving every year to maintain our position on this very competitive list,” said Dr. Elizabeth Pierce, chair of the Department of Information Science, which houses both programs. “We take very seriously our ongoing efforts with the ��Vlog��ý Little Rock Graduate School, our program faculty, students, and alumni to find ways to make the educational experience associated with our programs as attractive, affordable, and high quality as possible.” At ��Vlog��ý Little Rock, the U.S. News ranking covers the online Master of Science in information quality and Master of Science in information science programs. Several academic programs at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock have made the grade by earning a spot in U.S. News and World Report’s 2022 Best College Rankings. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock’s top ranking came for #143 in Social Mobility – National Universities. The university has risen 48 spots since last year. U.S. News and World Report also previously ranked ��Vlog��ý Little Rock as the top university in Arkansas for social mobility. The ranking measures a university’s success in graduating economically disadvantaged students who are less likely to finish college. “Helping our students advance involves offering more than excellent academic programming,” said Chancellor Christina Drale. “We have intentionally developed resources and expanded services to support students in the transition from classroom to career. Improving our ranking in social mobility reflects a concrete measure of our focused attention on student success.” The social mobility indicator measures how well schools graduated students who received federal Pell Grants. Students receiving these grants typically come from households whose family incomes are less than $50,000 annually, though most Pell Grant money goes to students with a total family income below $20,000. The social mobility ranking was computed by assessing Pell Grant graduation rates and Pell Grant graduate rate performance. At ��Vlog��ý Little Rock, 39 percent of undergraduate students from the fall 2021 semester are Pell Grant recipients, and 55 percent of undergraduate students with known generation status are first-generation students. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock’s student body is the most diverse of any college or university in Arkansas. About 45 percent of the student population reports to be in a minority population, two or more races, or international. Several graduate programs at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock were named in the 2022 Best Graduate School rankings by U.S. News and World Report.�� Some of ��Vlog��ý Little Rock’s top graduate programs listed in the most recent U.S. News and World report include: 36th in Best Criminology Schools, 39th in Best Part-time Law Programs, and 111th in Best Public Affairs Programs. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock also ranked in the #154-202 category in Best Engineering Schools.�� “These rankings from U.S. News and World Report confirm what we have known for some time,” said Dr. Brian Berry, vice provost of research and dean of the Graduate School. “��Vlog��ý Little Rock has a lot to offer in graduate education. These programs are shining examples of the great things that happen at ��Vlog��ý Little Rock.” The ��Vlog��ý Little Rock School of Criminal Justice has been ranked 36th in the . U.S. News and World Report ranked the University of Arkansas at Little Rock as the No. 1 university in Arkansas for social mobility. The ranking measures a university’s success in graduating economically disadvantaged students who are less likely to finish college. “Facilitating social mobility is a fundamental value at ��Vlog��ý Little Rock. It is inherent in our role and scope as a metropolitan university,” said Chancellor Christina Drale. “We also know that helping our students advance means more than providing excellent programs. We must also provide a success infrastructure that will keep them engaged, help them solve problems, and enable them to build relationships with professionals in their field that will assist in their transition to a career path after graduation.” ��Vlog��ý Little Rock alumnae Reteisha Byrd, was able to afford college with the help of Pell grants, scholarships, a graduate assistantship, and student loans. She graduated from ��Vlog��ý Little Rock with a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2014 and a Master of Public Administration��in 2016. An internship at Little Rock Port Authority led to her current job as a research manager for Boyette Strategic Advisors. “I knew I wanted to attend ��Vlog��ý Little Rock upon graduating from high school,” Byrd said. “The university had a great business program and was in the capital city with plenty of job opportunities. The College of Business provided plenty of opportunities for students to network with local businesses. My education at ��Vlog��ý Little Rock has allowed me to apply what I learned in the classroom, make connections within the community, and advance in my personal life. I’ve also made lifelong friends who were either classmates or roommates while attending ��Vlog��ý Little Rock.” The social mobility indicator measures how well schools graduated students who received federal Pell Grants. Mercades Parker, a single mother who will graduate in May 2021 with a Master of Social Work degree, would not have been able to afford college without taking on substantive loans if she had not been selected for the Chancellor’s Leadership Corps at ��Vlog��ý Little Rock and the Academic Challenge Scholarship from the Arkansas Department of Education. Parker said that the advancement of social mobility is shown at ��Vlog��ý Little Rock by the way people take care of the students. “I think ��Vlog��ý Little Rock really cares about its students,” Parker said. “From 2013 and on, I always felt like there was someone to help me when I needed help the most. College is challenging and tough. Having those different outlets to go to is what helped me. Having a professor who would go back and look over your work with you is very helpful. They really want you to succeed. I think social mobility is shown in how people care about their students.” ��Vlog��ý Little Rock has proven to be the higher education institution in Arkansas that can transform your life and empower graduates through education. When Dr. Brian Berry came to ��Vlog��ý Little Rock as a first-generation college student, he never imagined that he would get his Ph.D. and go one to become ��Vlog��ý Little Rock’s vice provost for research and dean of the Graduate School. “I couldn’t even dream of a Ph.D. when I first got here. I was just happy to be going to college,” Berry said. “This place gave me more to dream about. I’ve always been thankful for the opportunities that ��Vlog��ý Little Rock has given me. Not only has this institution given me an education, but it’s given me a career.” Dr. Erin Finzer, associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, emphasized the many programs ��Vlog��ý Little Rock has available to help underrepresented students as one of the reasons for the university’s high social mobility ranking. Those programs include the Charles W. Donaldson Scholars Academy, a year-round program open to students in the Pulaski County Special School District (PCSSD) that provides academic support and mentoring for underrepresented students at the university. Additionally, the Summer Bridge Academy is a three-week residential program that prepares incoming freshmen socially and academically for college-level work and accelerates their progress toward degree completion. ��Vlog��ý Little Rock is also home to the African American Male Initiative, African American Female Initiative, Hispanic Latino Initiative, TRIO Talent Search, and McNair Scholars, which also support underrepresented students towards degree completion and graduate school enrollment. “Our academic programs, service to students, and commitment to community engagement are determined by our mission to improve students’ lives through engaged teaching and learning,” Finzer said.

Developed with support from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Information Quality Program, the curriculum balances information quality theory with industry best practices using state-of-the-art technology. “The Information Quality Graduate Program was launched in 2006, and it’s the only graduate program in the U.S. devoted to the study of data governance and data quality management issues,” said Dr. Elizabeth Pierce, chair of the Department of Information Science, which houses both programs. “The program is attracting a lot of attention from the chief data officers community due to the strong synergy between this program’s curriculum and the need for chief data officers to ensure their organization has trusted data that is available when needed.” The online master’s degree in information science is a 33-hour program designed to familiarize individuals with the advanced knowledge, skills, and technologies for working with large amounts of complex data. Students learn how to compete in an industry with an ever-present demand for new innovations in data science and analytics, advanced information systems design and development, and emerging information technologies. Both degrees serve as a stepping stone for other advanced graduate degrees, such as ��Vlog��ý Little Rock’s Ph.D. in computer and information science.�� U.S. News ranked programs based on engagement, faculty credentials and training, expert opinion, services and technology, and student excellence. Programs ranked high on the list demonstrated quality online instruction that promotes participation in courses, accessible and responsive instructors with strong academic credentials, diverse online learning technologies, and strong student accomplishments. Pierce said that the success of the online programs is driven by several factors, including the use of innovative online technologies to deliver a live classroom webcast from video classrooms in the College of Engineering and Information Technology, skilled instructors, and support from ��Vlog��ý Little Rock “We are very picky about who teaches in our program,” Pierce said. “For our technical classes, we use faculty who are extremely knowledgeable in their field of expertise. Bowen students graduate with some of the lowest student debt in the country

Bowen School of Law one of T.�� Coming in eighth on this year’s list, Bowen moved up two spots from the from the 2016 ranking. The law school was also ranked in the. “We are very pleased with what this particular ranking means for Bowen graduates,” said Bowen Dean Michael Hunter Schwartz. “Students who graduate from law school with little debt have more choices about their futures. Instead of having to take a job based solely on which one would allow them to most speedily repay their mounds of student debt, Bowen grads can focus on realizing their dreams.” �� Bowen graduates from the Class of 2016 left school with an average student loan debt of $65,931. This is about half the $112,776 average debt for 2016 law school graduates in the U.S., according to U.S. News and World Report. “News of Bowen graduates’ small debt load, the law school’s innovative curriculum, outstanding faculty, and collegial student culture has spread,” Schwartz said. “Applications for Bowen’s fall 2017 class are up 32 percent and follow a 20 percent increase in applications for fall 2016.” Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey came in first on the list, followed by the University of South Dakota, Brigham Young University, North Carolina Central University, Florida A&M University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Georgia State University, ��Vlog��ý Little Rock, University of North Dakota, and the University of Mississippi. Law school graduates can easily rack up student loan debt of more than $100,000, but some schools provide more bang for your buck. Law school students graduated with a debt ranging from $56,173 to $182,411, according to U.S. News and World Report. The list is based on debt data 181 ranked law schools provided ��for U.S. News and World Report’s annual survey.

Bowen ranks seventh in national ranking of law schools where the most accepted students enroll

For the third time in the past four years, the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has a top 10 national ranking for its rate of accepted students who enroll.�� Bowen ranked seventh in the U.S. News and World Report list of Out of the 232 full-time students who were admitted to Bowen, 105 chose to enroll for the 2016-17 school year. Bowen achieved a yield rate (percent of students who enroll in a college or university after being admitted) of 45.3 percent, up 2.1 percent from 2016, when Bowen ranked ninth on the U.S. News and World Report list. The average yield rate among all law schools participating in the study was around 24 percent. Yale University topped the list, followed by Brigham Young University, Harvard University, University of North Dakota, Appalachian School of Law, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, ��Vlog��ý Little Rock, Stanford University, Washburn University, and Indiana University-Indianapolis. U.S. News and World Report only considers full-time students at the law schools in its yield rate comparisons. Bowen’s yield rate for part-time students, 61 percent, was even higher than its rate among full-time students. Bowen’s combined yield rate for all students was 48 percent. “Bowen’s excellent yield and its substantial growth in applications are the result of the law school’s systematic, careful efforts to build relationships with its admitted students and offer an educational opportunity that is distinct in the legal education marketplace and attractive to prospective students,” said Michael Hunter Schwartz, dean of Bowen School of Law. Prospects for Bowen’s fall 2017 class look even more promising. Applications are up 30 percent for fall 2017 after a 20 percent increase in applications for fall 2016. “Students are drawn to the law school’s demonstrated and sustained commitment to serving the state and its citizens, and they choose Bowen for the myriad opportunities created by our location in the state capital and innovative curriculum,” Schwartz said. For its annual law school rankings, U.S. News and World Report surveyed 195 schools using self-reported school data. The yield list is provided to magnify a particular data point that can help students find the right law school for them.

U.S. News and World Report has ranked the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law ninth in the nation for having the highest yield rate of accepted students who enroll at the law school. Out of the 266 students who were accepted at Bowen, 115 enrolled for the 2015-16 school year. Bowen received a 43.2 percent yield rate. The average yield rate among all law schools for the fall 2015 class was around 24 percent. “This ranking reflects Bowen’s growing reputation for providing a quality, affordable, distinctive legal education experience,” said Michael Hunter Schwartz, dean of the Bowen School of Law. Prospects for Bowen’s fall 2016 class are looking even more promising. Bowen is one of only 13 law schools in the United States that has seen a growth in applications of 20 percent or more in 2016. “The results show that, if we can get prospective students to really know us, they are extraordinarily likely to choose Bowen,” Schwartz said. “We are a small legal education community that prides itself on the personal connection we have with our students, and our admitted students realize that fact.” For its annual law school rankings, U.S. News and World Report surveyed 205 schools using self-reported school data. The yield list is provided to magnify a particular data point that can help students find the right law school for them. Out of the 10 schools that had the highest “yield” rates, Yale Law School ranked first and Harvard Law School ranked third.
