, a commercial general contractor and construction manager with offices in Central Arkansas, Northwest Arkansas and Dallas, Texas, joined 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 Corporate Partnership Program in 2024 to offer employees the opportunity to start or finish their degree while they continue their careers.

Jacob Earls, senior project manager at Clark Contractors, said the partnership program felt like a natural step for the company.

鈥淐lark has a long history with the 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock Construction Management and Civil and Construction Engineering programs, and a large portion of our workforce has graduated from the Construction Management program in particular,鈥 Earls said. 鈥淚t was an easy decision.鈥

Through the Corporate Partnership Program, Clark Contractors employees are eligible to receive a 10% tuition scholarship on all undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs, as well as a $0 enrollment application fee and a $25 per credit hour scholarship.

鈥淭he scholarships are grease on the tracks to get our workforce on the right path and be able to complete something tangible they can hold on to,鈥 Earls continued. 鈥淚 really do believe it is something that makes a difference for our team members.鈥

Three of Clark Contractors’ project administrators, Grant Thomas, Holdyn Brown and Gus Smith, are currently enrolled at the university.

鈥淚 always planned to continue my education, but I was unsure what that path would look like until I began exploring companies that actively invest in their employees,鈥 said Thomas, who is set to graduate in May 2027 with a degree in construction management. 鈥淪eeing the level of trust and confidence Clark [Contractors] places in young professionals starting their careers gave me the assurance to take that next step.鈥

Over one third of the employees at Clark Contractors are college-educated, and a majority of that percentage carry bachelor鈥檚 degrees, especially those interested in climbing the ranks to managerial roles.聽

Brown will graduate from the Construction Management program in Spring 2029 and has always wanted an opportunity to earn his degree. When he joined Clark in July 2025 and learned about the partnership, he quickly registered to begin classes in the fall semester.

鈥淚 have always been attracted to hands-on work, and pursuing a degree in construction management offers both an office setting and a field setting where hands-on work is required to run a successful job,鈥 Brown explained. 鈥淚 am hoping that completing the program will lead to a full-time job offer.鈥

Smith, also a Construction Management student, was already in the process of earning his bachelor鈥檚 degree when he joined the Clark team in August 2025, knowing that the program would help propel him toward a management position. He was drawn to Clark Contractors because of the team鈥檚 encouragement to pursue higher education and the knowledge that leadership would be flexible with his school schedule.

鈥淚鈥檒l be graduating this coming December, and am excited to apply what I鈥檝e learned,鈥 Smith said. 鈥淎fter all, managing construction is more than what it seems; it鈥檚 also managing people to achieve the desired outcome. That鈥檚 something I didn鈥檛 grasp until I entered the classroom, and I鈥檒l take it with me.鈥

For Miesha Robinson, earning a college degree isn鈥檛 just about personal success鈥攊t鈥檚 about creating a brighter future for her two-year-old son, Malachi.

As a single mother balancing work, school, and parenthood, Robinson is pursuing a marketing degree with concentrations in professional sales and digital marketing at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, thanks in part to the university鈥檚 Corporate Partnerships Program.

鈥淚 remember thinking that I could go through life without a college degree, but I want my son to have a better future,鈥 Robinson said. 鈥淕oing back to school is about having a better life and leaving a better legacy for my son. I want to reach my full potential.鈥

Through her job at , Robinson is one of more than 400 students receiving a 10-percent scholarship on tuition, a $25-per-credit-hour book scholarship, and a waived application fee through participation in the Corporate Partners Program. With almost 50,000 eligible employees in more than 100 companies across Arkansas, the Corporate Partnerships Program is making higher education more accessible for working professionals like Robinson.

Robinson鈥檚 college journey hasn鈥檛 been a straight path. She first enrolled in college in 2012 while still in high school, taking concurrent credit and AP courses. She later attended the University of Arkansas but faced overwhelming challenges. In 2015, a devastating car accident left her with serious, long-term injuries, making it difficult to keep up with coursework, and she eventually withdrew from school.

鈥淲hen I left Fayetteville, I felt like no one cared about me,鈥 Robinson said. 鈥淚 was just another number. But when I came to 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock, everything changed. They didn鈥檛 label me as disabled. They treated me like a student who needed support, and that made all the difference.鈥

Robinson works as a front-of-house employee at Yellow Rocket Concepts, where she wears many hats. Yellow Rocket Concepts owns popular dining options like Lost Forty Brewing, Big Orange, Local Lime, Camp Taco, and ZAZA. She serves tables, trains new staff, models for company marketing, and is in the process of becoming a tour guide. A six-foot billboard featuring her smiling face even greets customers at one of the company鈥檚 locations.

She enjoys the job and the people she meets, especially those passionate about the craft of brewing.

鈥淚 didn鈥檛 know how much science goes into making beer,鈥 Robinson said. 鈥淭he people I work with are incredibly knowledgeable, and they鈥檝e taught me to respect the industry.鈥

Yellow Rocket Concepts鈥 support extends beyond the workplace.

鈥淭hey work with my schedule, encourage me to study when I have downtime, and even talk to me about future opportunities within the company once I graduate,鈥 Robinson said. 鈥淭hey don鈥檛 expect me to serve tables forever. They are cheering me on, and they want me to succeed.鈥

Despite the challenges of balancing work, school, and motherhood, Robinson is determined to graduate in Spring 2026.

鈥淏eing a single parent makes it harder,鈥 she admitted. 鈥淭here are days when I feel overwhelmed. But my son motivates me. I want to build a better life for him.鈥

Robinson has big plans for her future. With a background in both marketing and insurance, she dreams of opening her own business that combines both fields鈥攁n advertising agency with an insurance component.

鈥淚 want to own my own business,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 have my life and health insurance license, and I want to merge that with my passion for marketing. It鈥檚 about creating opportunities, not just for myself, but for my son and others who come after me.鈥

She believes that earning her degree will open doors that would otherwise remain closed.

鈥淐ollege is about more than just education. It鈥檚 about discipline, networking, and setting yourself up for a better future,鈥 she said. 鈥溙切腣log传媒 Little Rock has put me in a place where I can make connections and grow in ways I never imagined.鈥

Overcoming Obstacles and Looking Ahead

Robinson鈥檚 path hasn鈥檛 been easy. She has faced health challenges, financial struggles, and the pressures of single parenthood, but she remains committed to her pursuit of success.

鈥淚t鈥檚 not for the weak,鈥 she said. 鈥淭here are sacrifices, and I do regret not getting back on track sooner. But I know that education gives me a chance at a better future. My son was born on Valentine鈥檚 Day, and he was my lifeline when I was struggling. Now, everything I do is for him.鈥

She also values the support system she has found through the Corporate Partnerships Program and the university.

鈥溙切腣log传媒 Little Rock has helped me with childcare, connected me with financial resources, and made sure I didn鈥檛 fall through the cracks,鈥 she said. 鈥淭hey鈥檝e given me the chance to keep going.鈥

As she continues her journey, Robinson hopes her story will inspire others facing similar obstacles.

鈥淚f you鈥檙e struggling, don鈥檛 give up,鈥 she said. 鈥淔ind the support you need and keep pushing forward. Education changes lives. I know because it鈥檚 changing mine.鈥

With classes underway, the University of Arkansas at Little Rock is on track to see one of the largest freshman increases in its history, with freshmen enrollment up 33.3%, or 203 students, over last year.聽

Growth extends well beyond the freshman class. Sophomore and junior enrollments also increased, contributing to a 4.1% rise in total undergraduate enrollment. The enrollment surge marks the largest percent increase in overall undergraduate enrollment growth at 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock since 2009. Additionally, on-campus housing occupancy climbed 9.2% compared to last fall, with more students choosing to live and learn in the heart of Little Rock.

糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock鈥檚 Corporate Partnership Program also continues its rapid expansion. The program provides opportunities for employees of Corporate Partners to reskill and upskill at a lowered tuition rate. This program enrolled 474 students this fall from more than 120 local and regional corporate partners. This represents a 40.7% increase in participation over last year. By creating pathways for working professionals, the program strengthens workforce development across Arkansas while expanding access to higher education.

At the graduate level, overall enrollment is projected to decline 9.5% (141 students), primarily due to a drop in international enrollment. However, several programs, including Engineering and Engineering Technology, Mass Communication, Social Work, and Criminal Justice and Criminology, reported notable graduate-level growth.

鈥淭he continued momentum we are seeing this fall is a testament to the dedication of our faculty and staff, the hard work of our students, and the distinctive programs that make 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock an outstanding choice,鈥 said Dr. Christina S. Drale, 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock chancellor. 鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting to see so many students choosing to launch their futures here in Little Rock, knowing their contributions will strengthen our communities and support growth across Arkansas and the region.鈥

This growth is fueled by stronger connections with schools, communities, and industry partners, creating new pathways for students to access and succeed in higher education.

鈥淭hese tremendous enrollment gains reflect the growing number of students and families recognizing the value and quality of a 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock education,鈥 added Dr. W. Cody Decker, vice chancellor for student affairs and chief data officer. 鈥淲e鈥檙e especially proud of the multi-year growth in our freshman class, which will have a lasting positive impact on our campus community.鈥

The growth reflects both the strength of our academic programs and our commitment to affordability, as many 糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock students continue taking advantage of affordability initiatives like the Trojan Guarantee and Half-Off Scholarship. These programs provide Arkansans with an affordable way to access a high-quality education. In fall 2024, 615 students benefited from these initiatives. Since their inception, the programs have supported 1,425 students, resulting in $5,666,400 in total savings 鈥 an average of $3,184 per recipient.聽聽

糖心Vlog传媒 Little Rock anticipates enrolling approximately 8,000 students this fall, representing a 1.2% increase over last year. Student semester credit hours are expected to rise by 4.0%, and full-time equivalent enrollment is projected to grow by 3.9%.
