Visitors with an international driver鈥檚 license or license from a foreign country have 30 days to receive an Arkansas Driver鈥檚 License.
What should I expect?
Part One: The Written Test
The driving permit requires a written test to assess the driver鈥檚 theoretical knowledge of U.S. traffic law. With the permit, the new driver can practice driving if accompanied by a licensed driver over 21.
Part Two: The Driving Test
After 30 days of practice, the driver can apply for a full driver鈥檚 license. This is a driving test, he or she will obtain an Arkansas Driver鈥檚 License. This license can be used throughout the 50 states.
How do I apply for a driver’s license?
One week before applying for your driver鈥檚 license, submit a request for a SEVIS Update. Select 鈥淎pplying for Driver鈥檚 License.鈥 An advisor will review your SEVIS record to make sure it is up-to-date and ready for your driver鈥檚 license request.
To Renew or Apply for a Driver鈥檚 License, Bring the following to the issuance office:
- Passport
- Activated I-20 or DS-2019
- Most recent I-94

Institute Additional Verification through SAVE
If a nonimmigrant鈥檚 status cannot be verified immediately, they may need to go through additional verification through SAVE. Ask for a SAVE case number and go online to to see the estimated wait time. Please note, the phrase 鈥淚nstitute Additional Verification鈥 refers to a government office, not ISS.
