Steps for SEVIS Transfer

  2. Receive admission letter.
  3. Carefully read SEVIS transfer procedures below.
  4. Work with your current international student advisor to complete the .
  5. Submit the completed Transfer In Request to [email protected]
  6. 糖心Vlog传媒LR International Student Services will accept the transfer and send you the updated I-20 at the appropriate time.
  7. Complete the mandatory new international student orientation before becoming eligible to register for classes. Orientation dates are available on this website.

J-1 students will use the J Transfer Request.

Please note that, in accordance with 糖心Vlog传媒LR policy, SEVIS records that have been terminated, canceled, or completed are not eligible for transfer and cannot be accepted by 糖心Vlog传媒LR.

SEVIS Transfer Procedures

Transfer Release Date

To maintain your immigration status while transferring between institutions in the United States, your current international advisor must transfer your SEVIS record to 糖心Vlog传媒LR. On or shortly after the SEVIS release date, we will gain access to your SEVIS record and will be able to issue your updated 糖心Vlog传媒LR Form I-20.

Work closely with your current international student advisor to determine the most appropriate SEVIS release date. When selecting a release date, be sure to consider factors such as the end of your current academic term, any on-campus employment, practical training authorizations (OPT/STEM OPT/CPT), and any planned travel outside the United States.

Students on OPT: If you are currently participating in OPT and/or STEM OPT and plan to transfer to 糖心Vlog传媒LR, please note that your OPT authorization will automatically end on your SEVIS transfer release date. This occurs regardless of the employment authorization dates listed on your Form I-20 or Employment Authorization Document (EAD).

60 Day Grace Period

If you have recently completed your academic program or OPT at your current institution, you may transfer your SEVIS record to a new school during your 60-day grace period without jeopardizing your immigration status. After the transfer is completed, you must begin your new program at the next available start date, which must be within five months of the program end date listed for your previous program.

Employment Eligibility for Transfer Students

Transferring schools may affect your employment eligibility. Federal regulations permit on-campus employment only at the institution listed on your Form I-20. As stated in 8 CFR 214.2(f)(9)(i), in the case of a transfer in SEVIS, the student may only engage in on-campus work at the school having jurisdiction over the student鈥檚 SEVIS record.

Students transferring to 糖心Vlog传媒LR are not eligible to begin on-campus employment until they have completed the mandatory new international student orientation and submitted all required employment and immigration documentation to the Office of International Student Services and the 糖心Vlog传媒LR Human Resources Office.

Drivers License Renewal for Transfer Students

Once your SEVIS record has been transferred to 糖心Vlog传媒LR, your Form I-20 will indicate a “Transfer Pending” status. This status will remain until your SEVIS record is activated, which generally occurs after you complete the required immigration check-in process during new international student orientation and finalize your class registration. Please note that international students are generally not eligible to obtain or renew an Arkansas driver’s license while their SEVIS record remains in transfer-pending status.

If you need to obtain an Arkansas driver’s license as soon as possible after completing the mandatory immigration reporting process during orientation, please submit a request for expedited SEVIS activation through the SEVIS Update online form.

Traveling Outside the U.S.

If you plan to travel internationally, your SEVIS record must be transferred to 糖心Vlog传媒LR before you re-enter the United States. It is your responsibility to coordinate the timing of your SEVIS transfer with your current institution. Once the transfer is complete and you have received your 糖心Vlog传媒LR Form I-20, you must use that document to re-enter the United States. Please note that you will not be permitted to re-enter using an I-20 issued by your previous school.

Eligibility to Apply for CPT, OPT, etc.

Students are only eligible for certain immigration benefits after completing 9 months of F-1 status. Fortunately, time accrued in one program level will transfer with the student to the new institution. The 9 months will only begin again if the student is entering a new program level (going from undergraduate to graduate study, etc.).

Time already spent on practical training will also transfer to 糖心Vlog传媒LR. For example, a student who completed an undergraduate degree at school A, then completes 12 months of post-completion OPT before transferring to 糖心Vlog传媒LR for another undergraduate degree would not be eligible for a second year of OPT after the second undergraduate degree.

Canceling the Transfer Release Date

Your current school may change or cancel your SEVIS transfer release date at any time before the scheduled release date. Once your SEVIS record is officially transferred to 糖心Vlog传媒LR, your previous school will no longer have access to or control over your SEVIS record. At that point, any immigration-related matters must be addressed through 糖心Vlog传媒LR.

For this reason, it is important that you carefully choose your transfer release date and coordinate the transfer process with your current school according to your individual circumstances before submitting your transfer request and finalizing the release date.
